time

it’s been a while since my last confession… 🙂

amazing how fleet-footed time can be. unlike me. i’m still putting one foot in front of the other, but i certainly wouldn’t call myself fleet of foot!
i decided not to do the last day of my work-out last week (i.e. – the 2/3/2/ set which is should have done in order to complete week 4). i was tired and sore and i felt i had achieved the most important goals for the week.
the weekend seemed to fly by. friday night was another scheduled load shed, so i wound up going to bed early, catching up on scripts with the help of a camping head-lamp which actually served the purpose surprisingly well. saturday seemed to slip by – spent saturday night being a shoulder for a friend who is going through a break up. it really sucks when you meet a couple who just seem perfect. they’re sharp and funny and you have great conversations while hours disappear undetected. you really dig them individually, as well as together and then they split up while you try to figure out how to remain friends with them when they’re no longer friends with each other. tricky…
sunday night was full moon and i’d invited some friends over for a fire gathering. one of my friends i love dearly has a habit of always showing up with an entourage (mainly because she doesn’t have a car and always needs a ride) and i usually don’t mind. this time though, i didn’t appreciate my alcohol supplies being depleted by people i did not invite (especially when i’m the only person in the party who’s not drinking). i felt like they were having their own private party – it just happened to be at my house, at my expense. my reward; being left to do the post party clean-up! @#$%$%! something distinctly wrong with that picture.
winter seems to have crashed autumn’s party this year and it’s been freezing the last few days. yesterday was the first day of WEEK 5 and i could not be sure that i was going to stick to the program, especially as i was up till after 1a.m. dai (zaobab) an amazing japanese fire spinner who lives here in gauteng, showed up with his ‘buugeng’ – a fantastic tool he’s making and selling. http://www.zaobab.com

we wound up playing and coming with all kinds of ideas for new photo shoots with the buugeng even though i had to be up at 5.30 for a very early studio day. i’m going to have to get some buugeng even though i’m absolutely house-poor. once he left i found it almost impossible to fall asleep even though i was exhausted. i was freezing, even under a pile of blankets and faux fur.
when i got home in the afternoon, i melted onto the couch under a comforter, with the puppy on my chest, watching some shows i’d pvr’d and i amazed myself when i bolted up at about 5. i headed off to the track in several layers, wearing gloves against the most unsavory chill. 10 laps later. yup, i’m doing it. 4km’s down. one step at a time all the while listening to ira glass and this american life providing distraction from the knee aches and protesting muscles.
i decided to listen to those protestations and not run today. it seemed like a good idea, seeing that this was my first 10 laps and i have several more to go yet. instead i slept in and woke with a snoring puppy on my head (or more accurately, we went back to bed after a 6.30 trip to the bottom of the garden)! hopefully my body will thank me for giving it some recovery time when i hit the track tomorrow.

now time for bed after some migraine pills which hopefully will stave off this pain. feels like someone poking my eye out. not the cute face book kind of poke. more like a quentin tarantino, kill bill, darryl hannah heading for an eye-patch kind of poke. yup, it’s like that.
i’m missing lasz. feels strange without him here. zee seems to be acting out without him here, though i got her to sit and stay for at least 2 minutes at a time tonight.
10 days and counting.
